Meeting Minutes October 28th, 2019

President Charles Thaxton called meeting to order at 6:00.  He led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

He asked if there were any new members or quests present. Mo and Marice are the grandsons of the Timmons’ and are very interested in cars. The Club welcomed Bill Inge and his wife Fay and accepted their application for membership.

Sunshine Report was given by Liz Williams.  Ron Blalock announced Joyce was having more medical problems. Randy’s Back is better.

The September secretary’s report as published in the H&S and on-line was approved as published.

Ron Blalock gave the Treasurer’s report and it was approved as given. Ron will send a donation to the St. Paul’s Baptist church youth ministries.

New Business:

The Club has voted to change the starting time of the meetings from 6:30 to 6:00.

Club Christmas Party will be Monday, December 23rd at Charley’s from 2:00 to 4:00pm. The idea of doing a dirty Santa was discussed and was not approved due to lack of time. Club members are asked to bring desserts to share with all. Members will order from Charley’s menu as usual. 

 October Activities:

The Day at the Point event on October the 5th was great success. We had 6 cars there and the club picked up a new member, Bill Inge.

St. Paul Baptist Church Car, Truck and Bike Show. Was also a fun event. Otto, Charles and Owen Burks were there and also Toney was there with the Corvette club. As usual the food was good and there was also door prizes and trophies. Charles Thaxton won 2nd place in the car class. 

The New London Days event on October the 26th was also a fun event we were well represented with 6 cars and we all sat around and told stories and jokes.

November Activities:

There will be an ODMA meeting on November 1st from 7:00 to 8:30 PM after their Fall tour.

Club fall leaf Tour (Parkway Ride) November 2nd. We will meet at the Boonsboro elementary school at 9:00 and leave at 9:30. Drive up to the parkway at big Island ride up to the Peaks and return to Bedford for lunch.

Old Business:

Again this year the AACA has sent the club 4 complementary AACA memberships. These are for NEW members to join. Let’s see if we can get a few new members. Remember the new member must also join the club and pay our dues of $15.00.

The 50/50 Drawing winner was Claude Williams.

Instead of the Auction Otto Vallastro told little known stories about Lynchburg and the surrounding area.

A Motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 6:30 p.m. NEXT MEETING DATE WILL BE November 25th AT CHARLEY’S. Starting at 6:00 P.M.

Meeting Minutes September 30th, 2019

President Charles Thaxton called meeting to order at 6:15.  He led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

He asked if there were any new members or quests present. Mo Hall is the grandson of the Timmons’ and is very interested in cars.  Club welcomed Sharon Blanks back. Marilyn Luckhard was welcomed. Her husband, Bob, passed away suddenly since the August meeting.

Sunshine Report was given by Liz Williams.  Ron Blalock announced Joyce was having more medical problems.   It was reported that Randy Martin had back problems. 

The secretary’s report as published in the H&S and on line was approved as published.

Ron Blalock gave the Treasurer’s report and it was approved as given. Ron will send a check to the AACA for Liability Insurance.

New Business:

Again this year the AACA has sent the club 4 complementary AACA memberships. These are for NEW members to join the AACA. Let’s see if we can get a few new members. Remember the new member must also join the club and pay our dues of $15.00.

 Liability Insurance for the club is due by October 15th This policy protects you from a host of wrongful acts and covers a broad spectrum of your club member ship. Charles has a flyer and a letter which explains the coverage.

 There will be a ODMA meeting on November 1st from 7:00 to 8:30 PM after their Fall tour.

SEPTEMBER Activities:

Saturday September 28th. We met in the Bedford Walmart at Wendys’ parking lot at 9:00 and left at 9:30. We arrived in Bonsack at 10:15. We stayed there until about 12:30 and returned to Bedford for lunch at the OIP Italian restaurant. 

Otto and Charles went to a Cruise-in in Bedford at Smith Fariss Shop on Four Seasons Dr on Saturday September 14th There was a $15 donation for the Bedford Fire Department per vehicle.

OCTOBER Activities:

We have been invited to come and show our cars at the Day at the Point event. This has always been a nice show and we were especially in invited by Tanya Anderson administrative manager of the Lynchburg Museum System. The date will be October the 5th from 10:00 until 3:00. Let’s all try to be there no later than 9:00 so we can set up and be together. I am thinking we will be in the back of the building as before.

St. Paul’s Baptist Church Car, Truck and Bike Show at 4693 Everett Rd, Forest on Oct. 19th from 11:00 to 3:00 AM Registration is $5.00 to benefit St Paul’s Youth Ministries. Rain Date October 26th. There will be a Bake sale and Plate sale the food is always good. 

There will be a car show at the New London Days event on October the 26th from 10:00 to 3:00.  There is no addition fee. Please come and support a local area event and our own Danny Ashwell. This is a really interesting event because of its historical significance to our area.

Other Business:

Beginning January next year, the Club will try to use a rotating President and Vice President.  Charles will be President in 2020 with Mike Cooper as Vice President.  Randy Martin will be President in 2021 with Charles Thaxton as Vice President. Mike Cooper will be President in 2022 with Randy Martin as Vice President, etc. Any question about this rotation, see Charles.  Notify Charles if anyone would like to Join the rotation.

Club Christmas Party will be Monday, December 23rd at Charleys from 2:00 to 4:00pm.  Times were not available on Saturdays as Charleys was booked. There was some discussion about doing a Dirty Santa Present exchange. This will be discussed in depth at October meeting.    Club members are asked to bring desserts to share with all.  Members will order from Charleys’ menu as usual.

STARTING WITH THE  OCTOBER MEETING, THE CLUB MEETINGS WILL START AT 6:00PM BECAUSE IT WILL GET DARK EARLIER.  THIS WAS REQUESTED BY SEVERAL MEMBERS.  Please come early enough to order your meal before meeting starts.

The 50/50 Drawing winner was Charles Thaxton.  He donated his winnings back to the club.

 Auction was held by Otto Vallastro.  This will be the last Club Auction due to lack of participation.

Meeting Minutes August 26th, 2019

President Charles Thaxton called meeting to order at 6:30.  He led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

He asked for new members and quests. There were no new members but Club recognized a visitor, Moe Hall, the grandson of Ron and Linda Timmons. Moe is a 12 year old car enthusiast.

Sunshine Report was given by Liz Williams.  Liz announced Jack Shield’s wife, Margarite, passed away.  They were old members of the Club. Also Ron Blalock announced Joyce was having more medical problems.

The secretary’s report as published in the H&S and on line was approved as published.

New Business:

A Veterans Appreciation Cookout Sponsored by Diuguid Funeral Service  will be held on Saturday the 28th from 11:30 until 2:30 at the American Legion Building Post 16 on 1301 Greenview Dr. This event is open to all Veterans, Active Duty Military Members, and Immediate Family Members are invited To attend.

 August Activities:

The Car Show at the Boonsboro United Methodist Church on Saturday the 17th was a Huge Success not only for the church but the club. We had About 13 Club members and About 9 Cars. Thanks to Reggie and his son and son in law for helping to park all of the cars and reserving the shady spot. Just as a side note yours truly and Patty won the trophy for Best in show. Surprise, Surprise.

September Activities:

The trip up to Sink Spangler Museum in Bonsack was scheduled on September the 21st but there is a conflict with the date and we will be moving the tour to Saturday September the 28th. As it stands now we will meet in the Bedford Walmart Parking lot at 9:30 and arrive in Bonsack by 10:30. We will stay there until about 12:30 and go eat some lunch at a place to be determined.  

Charles also received a flyer about a Cruise in in Bedford at Smith Fariss Shop on Four Seasons Dr. This will be on Saturday September 14th from 1 until 5. There is a $15 donation for the Bedford Fire Department per vehicle.

There is a cruise in on Saturday the 21st at LU by Fire on the Mountain car club that starts at 4 and goes until dark.

Old business:

The Car show at the James River Visitors Center on the parkway was a great success. There was a great attendance we had 6 cars and 12 people. Dr. Blackburn brought his 1912 T model and Greg, Reggie’s Son in Law, gave rides up and down the park way. I think everyone had a good time. 

Other Business:

Just as a quick note, Linda and I will be taking the Packard to the Virginia Festival of the Wheel Concourse in Charlottesville Va. On Sunday September the 1st at the Boars Head Inn and Resort.  All money will go to UVA’s Cancer Center.

The 50/50 Drawing winner was Barbara Taylor.  She donated her winnings back to the club.

Auction was held led by Otto Vallastro.  

There was a Motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:15pm.
