LYNCHBURG REGION AACA

Meeting Minutes for February 24th, 2020

President Charles Thaxton called meeting to order at 6:00pm. He led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.There were no new members present. A guest present was Corrie, the granddaughter of Wanda and Dave Barnes.

Liz Williams announced there was no one on her Sunshine list.

The Secretary’s report as published on line was approved.

Ron Blalock gave the Treasurer’s report and it was approved as reported.

New Business:

Otto and Charles attended the ODMA Planning Meeting on Feb 22nd in Daleville. It was announced that Roanoke will host the 2020 meet held at Natural Bridge on

June 12th and 13th. Your car needs to be preregistered if you want it judged. Preregistration closes on June 1st and costs $20.00 per car. There is a special room rate at the hotel. See Charles for this information.          

A discussion was held about donating money to the new AACA Headquarters and Library Building Fund. A motion was made and seconded to send the Fund a check. This was voted on and passed by member’s vote.

The answer to finding new members is that we need VISIBILITY! Mike Cooper, Vice President, will explain what he can do with social media to make the club more visible to the public.

Kathy Wesley was recognized by the AACA at the National Convention for her work on our web page. Kathy received a certificate and a very nice trophy. Yea Kathy! Thank you for your hard work.

Christmas Party will be held at Charley’s on Saturday December 19th from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. We can bring desserts to share with members.

Old Business:

The Old Town Fredericksburg Car show will be on Saturday, April 25th 2020. See Charles for forms and information.

MARCH ACTIVITIES:  

The Spring Fling will be on Saturday March 21st at 11:00 to 3:00. NOTICE that the LOCATION HAS CHANGED. The new location will be Forest Road United Methodist Church across from Kings Island on Old Forest Road. The Club’s regular meeting will be at the Spring Fling. No Meeting at Charley’s the month of March. The Club will furnish Fried Chicken, ice tea, lemonade, and soft drinks. Members are asked to bring a covered dish or dessert to share with the Club. Bring someone with you who will enjoy our group or be a good Club member. NOTE: If you can help with set-up of the room, come at 10:00am. ALSO, Bring items for a Show and Tell that you think other Club members will enjoy seeing. 

APRIL ACTIVITIES:

April 18th will be a tour of one or more of Mark Smith’s buildings. Mark has generously offered a tour of these buildings. Thank you Mark!

Our April club meeting will be on April the 27th at 6:00 PM.

MAY ACTIVITIES:

Saturday May 16th will be our annual trip to the Drug Store Grill in Brookneal. We will meet at Hardys in Rustburg at 11:00 and caravan down to Brookneal for lunch at noon. The CLUB’s regular meeting will be moved to Tuesday May 26th because of the Memorial Day holiday.

 JUNE ACTIVITIES:

On June 13th we will tour of some of the very old houses in downtown Lynchburg on Madison & Washington Street. We may only be able to see these houses from the outside but some of them are really beautiful. More information will follow.

June 20th we will visit Hayden’s Garage to see some of his cars.

There will be another planning meeting to finish planning activities for the remainder of the year. It will be held at the Thaxton’s house on the 27th at 1:00pm. The Club will have an Ice Cream Social after the Planning Session.

Regular June meeting will be on June 29th at Charley’s at 6pm.

Meeting Closing:

The 50/50 Drawing was held and the winner was a server from Charley’s.

A Motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 6:40pm. The NEXT MEETING DATE WILL BE on Saturday March 21st at the Spring Fling.

Meeting Minutes January 27th, 2020

President Charles Thaxton called meeting to order at 6:00. He led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

Charles asked if there were any new members or quests present. 12 year old Moe Hall, our new Junior member, and Bill and Fay Inge were welcomed. Two Guests were welcomed, Mason O’Daniel and Claude and Liz’s Grandson.

Liz Williams announced that John Hussey was not doing well and Kathy Kellam was in a nursing home.

The Secretary’s report as published on our website was approved as published.

Ron Blalock gave the Treasurer’s report and it was approved as reported.

New Business:

Bill Inge brought several Manuals and Shop Books for the silent auction. The proceeds of which went to the club.

John Evans resigned from the club. He sold his Packard and his wife passed away last year.

February Activities:

ODMA Planning Meeting, in preparation for the 2020 Old Dominion Meet being hosted by the Roanoke Valley Region, is scheduled for Saturday, 22nd of February at Bellacin’s Pizza & Grinders in Roanoke. The address is 4373 Starkey Road in Roanoke The meeting time will be from 12:00 to 2:30 and the cost of the meal will be $12.00 per person

Old Business:

  • We voted on Junior Membership and Dues at $8.50 until age 16.
  • The old town Fredericksburg Car show will be on Saturday, April 25th 2020
  • The 84th annual Convention of the AACA will be held in the Philadelphia on February Friday the 7th and Saturday the 8th
  • Planning Meeting was held at the Thaxton’s house on the Saturday the 18th at Noon and the following was discussed.

Meeting Minutes December 23, 2019

 

Christmas Dinner meeting held at Charleys, was called to order at 2:30pm after everyone had ordered their meal and eaten.

President Charles Thaxton led the members and guest in the Pledge of Allegiance followed with a moment of silence.

Sunshine report given by Liz Williams consisted of no one was sick or in the hospital.

The Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports were not read.

NEW BUSINESS:

               A motion was made, seconded, and voted on to have a Junior Membership with suggested dues of $8.50 until age 16. Moe Hall, grandson of Ron and Linda Timmons, was welcome as our youngest member so far. CONGRATS to Moe !!!!

           Club members are still under siege from an email scammer. Remember that NO MONEY will be asked for or released by any club member unless it is brought before the club and voted on.

           Fredericksburg’s meet will be held on Saturday April 25, 2020.

           The 84th annual AACA convention will be in Philadelphia on February the 7th and 8th. Call for reservations at 1-800-325-3535. Charles has the forms and agenda.

JANUARY ACTIVITIES:

               2020 Planning Meeting will be at the Thaxton’s on Saturday 18th at Noon. Come and attend so you can present your suggestions for activities.

The meals, of all present, were furnished by the Club. Thank you !!

As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Meeting Minutes November 25th, 2019

President Charles Thaxton called meeting to order at 6:00. He led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

Charles asked if there were any new members or quests present. 12 year old guest Mo Hall is the grandson of Ron and Linda Timmons and is very interested in cars. Welcomed were new members Bill and Fay Inge.

Liz Williams announced long time members Jack Shields died on November the 21st and John Hussey has been in the hospital. Joyce Blalock was in attendance after an extended Illness.

The secretary’s report as published in the H&S and on line was approved as published.

Ron Blalock gave the Treasurer’s report and it was approved as reported.

New Business:

The election of officers for the year 2020 was held. Charles Thaxton was elected President, Mike Cooper for Vice President, Linda Thaxton for Secretary, Ron Blalock for Treasurer and Kathy Wesley for Web Master. There were no nominations from the floor and a motion was made, seconded and passed by a vote of the membership.

Tony Simmons will not be doing the Hub and Spoke after December. Tony and Marianne will also be leaving the club. They will be greatly missed.

John and Shanna Kenny will not be renewing their membership due to moving out of state.

Club Christmas Party and December meeting will be held on Monday, December 23rd at Charley’s from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The idea of doing a dirty Santa was discussed and was not approved due to lack of time. We will order from Charleys menu, as usual. Any one can bring a dessert to share with all members.

January Activities:

Planning Meeting will be held at the Thaxton’s house on Saturday the 18th starting at noon.   All members are welcomed to attend. Call or email Charles for directions.

 Old Business:

The Club’s Fall Leaf Tour (Parkway Ride) November 2nd was canceled because the Parkway was closed.

The 50/50 Drawing winner was one of the waiters at Charleys.

No auction was held. Donated magazines were sold to those members who wanted them with a freewill contribution. Two Antique Books, donated by Claude Williams, were sold separately.

A Motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 6:30pm.

NEXT MEETING DATE WILL BE December 23rd AT CHARLEY’S TIME IS : 2:PM to 4:PM and will include the Christmas Party and monthly meeting.

Meeting Minutes October 28th, 2019

President Charles Thaxton called meeting to order at 6:00.  He led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence.

He asked if there were any new members or quests present. Mo and Marice are the grandsons of the Timmons’ and are very interested in cars. The Club welcomed Bill Inge and his wife Fay and accepted their application for membership.

Sunshine Report was given by Liz Williams.  Ron Blalock announced Joyce was having more medical problems. Randy’s Back is better.

The September secretary’s report as published in the H&S and on-line was approved as published.

Ron Blalock gave the Treasurer’s report and it was approved as given. Ron will send a donation to the St. Paul’s Baptist church youth ministries.

New Business:

The Club has voted to change the starting time of the meetings from 6:30 to 6:00.

Club Christmas Party will be Monday, December 23rd at Charley’s from 2:00 to 4:00pm. The idea of doing a dirty Santa was discussed and was not approved due to lack of time. Club members are asked to bring desserts to share with all. Members will order from Charley’s menu as usual. 

 October Activities:

The Day at the Point event on October the 5th was great success. We had 6 cars there and the club picked up a new member, Bill Inge.

St. Paul Baptist Church Car, Truck and Bike Show. Was also a fun event. Otto, Charles and Owen Burks were there and also Toney was there with the Corvette club. As usual the food was good and there was also door prizes and trophies. Charles Thaxton won 2nd place in the car class. 

The New London Days event on October the 26th was also a fun event we were well represented with 6 cars and we all sat around and told stories and jokes.

November Activities:

There will be an ODMA meeting on November 1st from 7:00 to 8:30 PM after their Fall tour.

Club fall leaf Tour (Parkway Ride) November 2nd. We will meet at the Boonsboro elementary school at 9:00 and leave at 9:30. Drive up to the parkway at big Island ride up to the Peaks and return to Bedford for lunch.

Old Business:

Again this year the AACA has sent the club 4 complementary AACA memberships. These are for NEW members to join. Let’s see if we can get a few new members. Remember the new member must also join the club and pay our dues of $15.00.

The 50/50 Drawing winner was Claude Williams.

Instead of the Auction Otto Vallastro told little known stories about Lynchburg and the surrounding area.

A Motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 6:30 p.m. NEXT MEETING DATE WILL BE November 25th AT CHARLEY’S. Starting at 6:00 P.M.
